This New Year, Keep Your Goals To Yourself

The last few days on social media have been busy. Most people who I follow, from education to property to sports or just my friends and family are doing the same thing. Sharing their best bits from the last decade, their most liked pictures and what their goals are for the coming 365 days. Are they doing the right thing? Are they setting themselves up to fail? This TED talk looks into the matter.

After hitting on a brilliant new life plan, our first instinct is to tell someone — but Derek Sivers says it’s better to keep goals secret. He presents research stretching as far back as the 1920s to show why people who talk about their ambitions may be less likely to achieve them.
